History: The deceased were lowered tied to boards through long shafts into tombs where workers arranged the bodies in their final resting places, often alongside previously interred family members. Tomb figures were placed with the fallen to provide companionship, guidance, and protection in the afterlife. Description: Large shaft tomb figure wearing a headwrap with the right arm in a sling.
