History: The deceased were lowered tied to boards through long shafts into tombs where workers arranged them in their final resting places, often alongside previous deceased family members. Tomb figures were placed with the fallen to provide companionship, guidance, and protection in the afterlife. Description: Male figure with armbands, very elaborate head wrap, and a necklace with a large shell pendant. Right arm reattached and restored, end of private chipped. Overall excellent condition.
